I am glad I shall never be young without wild country to be young in. Of what avail are 40 freedoms without a blank spot on the map? -Aldo Leopold

Family activities at Great Basin National Park include ranger-led talks and hikes, the WebRanger program, and the Junior Ranger program. For current information on ranger programs, download the park newspaper, www.nps.gov/grba/parknews/newspaper.htm

The Alpine Lakes Trail

Starting from the Bristlecone Trailhead at the end of the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, the Alpine Lakes Trail loops through cool alpine forest and past two alpine lakes. There is plenty to explore along the way, and there are awesome views of the mountains, so bring lunch and make a day of it.

Be a WebRanger!

If you have access to the Internet, you can become a National Park WebRanger by going to www.webrangers.us, even from home before or after your visit to Great Basin National Park. You can play more than 50 games, learn about the national parks, and share park stories and pictures with other WebRangers around the world.

Junior Ranger Programs

  • 10 and up- seven activities

After completing these activities, show your booklet to a park ranger and receive a Junior Ranger Badge!
